Hello there Øystein Lie....
....coordinator of the Mare Life network which is holding a workshop at theNorth AtlanticSeafood Forum today — What exactly is Mare Life?
“We are an industrial network supported by Oslo Teknopol. We are active in the fishing industry, bringing together companies and researchers in fishing, fish farming and the food industry. Our aim is to promote cooperation and create a functional cluster of different parts of the Norwegian marine industry. Today we have around 30 members from both industry and the academic world in these three sectors.

What will happen at the workshop? “The workshop forms part of the North Atlantic Seafood Forum, which is taking place in Lillestrøm, outside Oslo, on 4-5 March. Last year 550 people attended the conference, making it the largest of its kind in the world. Around 100 people come to our workshop to listen to speakers and company presentations. We will also be presenting ten research cases which we consider to have high commercial potential. They relate to everything from the development of vaccines and the feeding of farmed fish to genetic studies. The idea is to give these projects an opportunity to showcase themselves, network and meet possible investors.

Why is it important to promote research specifically in the fishing industry? “Fishing is Norway´s greatest source of revenue after oil. In the future it may become the most important one. It is therefore important to create a dialogue between reputable players who wish to develop the industry. We believe that bringing together representatives from different parts of the industry makes it possible for people to think outside their own areas, creating interdisciplinary synergies in research."
