in the MedCoast region

The development of the biomedical sector is of strategic importance for the MedCoast region and is prioritized on the regional political level, as well as on a national level in both Sweden and Norway. A healthy and thriving biomedical industrial sector dose not only provide employment, but also it sustains the development and increases the quality and efficiency of the healthcare for citizens. To create a sustainable growth and increased quality of healthcare it is important that the traditional pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry can grow and developed. But likewise, it is of uttermost important that we create an environment where academics and practitioners within the healthcare system can commercialize and in that way make their innovations available to society. Hence, the development of the biomedical sector must co-develop from two directions. As a prioritized fields there are many actors and organisation that work to support the development of biomedical sector. These actors and organizations are often referred to as being active within the “innovation system" for the sector.
