The MedCoast region is a dynamic and strategically located region that is important both in Scandinavian and international contexts. The region is made up of Oslo, Akershus, Østfold, Göteborg and Västra Götaland. It is home to almost a quarter of the population of Norway and Sweden, nearly three million people. Oslo and Göteborg are major centers for education, industry, trade and transport.

Regional facts:

  • Population of 4 million.

 

  • There are around 100 000 students in the MedCoast region.

 

  • There are several Science Parks in the region surrounded by outstanding education and research institutions.

 

  • Oslo and Göteborg are port cities and handle over 30 million ton of goods each year.

 

  • Logistic hub for Nordic countries with 25 million inhabitants.
  • The distance between Oslo and Göteborg: ~1 hour by air, ~4 hours by car, ~4 hours by bus, ~5 hours by train.

 

  • ~235.000 lorries cross the border at the Svinesund bridge annually.

 

  • Through MedCoast two countries, one EU member and one EEA member can be reached.

 

  • The region has a common history and similar languages.
